Manchester City Triumph Over Sevilla in UEFA Super Cup
City Add Another Trophy to Their Collection
Manchester City defeated Sevilla 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out to win the 2023 UEFA Super Cup.
The match was played at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece, on August 16th, 2023. City took the lead in the 70th minute through a goal from Erling Haaland, but Sevilla equalized in the 83rd minute through Youssef En-Nesyri.
The match went to a penalty shoot-out, which City won 5-4. Riyad Mahrez scored the winning penalty for City, while Ivan Rakitic missed for Sevilla.
The victory gives City their first UEFA Super Cup title. They have now won all six major trophies under Pep Guardiola, adding to their Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Champions League, and Club World Cup titles.
Sevilla were looking to win their first UEFA Super Cup since 2006. They have now lost their last three appearances in the competition.
